Hello everyone,

This is an article I wrote for a local magazine. I wanted to share it with you. I wrote it for people who work in the service industry but it really applies to all of us. Dr. Scott Timpanelli

What Can Chiropractic Do for You?

Picture this. You get to work around 4 P.M. on a Friday night. You know it's going to be busy tonight. And then it starts. Here come the customers. You are moving fast, non-stop, serving customers, dealing with the kitchen, etc. But at two A.M. when the night is finished, you realize you’ve been on your feet for ten hours! You haven’t eaten anything, and you’ve been breathing secondhand smoke all night. Sound familiar?

Would you agree that you have experienced some STRESS? Stress on your spine, your legs, your feet. Stress from the customers, your boss, etc. Sound familiar?

So, what can chiropractic do for you?

Let me first explain how your body works. Your brain and spinal cord control every single function in your body. Billions of fine wires called nerves run down your spinal column and out to every organ, cell, and gland of your body. These nerves control your digestion, your breathing, your ability to fight disease, your ability to do your job, your ability to fully get the most out of LIFE! That’s right, chiropractic is about LIFE!

“But Dr. Scott, my back hurts, my feet hurt, and I am exhausted! Can chiropractic really help me?” YES. Chiropractic is based upon the premise that your body is a self-regulating and self-healing organism. There are 24 bones of the spine called vertebrae. Their job is to protect your spinal cord, keep you upright, and help you move in many ways. The nerves from the brain exit out of holes on the sides of the spine. Due to everyday stress, one or more of these vertebrae can misalign. We call these misalignments – subluxations. These subluxations cause nerve interference between the brain and the body. In other words, nerve messages from the brain to the body are interfered with or altered in some way. You may not even feel them because most of your nerves are not for pain, they’re for function. You don’t know what your liver is doing right now, but it's performing hundreds of functions without your conscious control or awareness.

Now, back to these subluxations. They are caused by everyday STRESS – standing or sitting all day, everyday worries, or toxins in the air and food just to name a few. There’s really no avoiding them. You can take steps to reduce these stressors, but life goes on and we can’t stop living. So, the chiropractic approach to life and health is to build power in the body. We simply check your spine for these misalignments and then provide a gentle push called an adjustment.

The adjustment helps correct these misalignments and several AWESOME things may happen. You may start to feel better; your range of motion and movement may increase; your muscles may relax; and you may just be in a better mood. But some of the greatest benefits are within and not felt outwardly. The adjustment removes nerve interference which allows your nervous system to work BETTER! Organ function and systems can improve. You may sleep better and feel less stressed. Your digestion may work better. Your exercise activity may improve, etc, etc. I cannot make individual claims, but one thing I do know is that your body will function BETTER without nerve interference caused by subluxations.

As you can see, chiropractic can do a lot for you and for your family. It can open up another world for your health; and most importantly, it can add to your LIFE. A well adjusted life starts with a well adjusted body.

Staying Focused and Clear.
By Dr. Scott Timpanelli

Do you ever get into a rut sometimes? You know the feeling. You have a ton of stuff to do like personal errands, projects around the house or yard, planning a trip, the kids’ ballgames, etc. - and you’ve got to be at work by 5 for your evening shift. Added to that, you also have a small business that you are working on growing. Life moves quickly sometimes, and that is why it is so important to be clear and focused in our daily lives to get things done.

The following is a quick check list that I’ve compiled over the years;
· Spend a few hours once a week (preferably Sunday) and write down everything that is on your mind – even the minute details.
· Spend a few hours once a month to list the things you want to accomplish that month and prioritize them. Then, plan your weeks and days.
· TAKE ACTION and get things done ONE at a time.
· Exercise daily – 5 minutes is better than 0 minutes.
· Improve your nutrition. Brain chemistry and your ability to focus and stay clear depend upon good nutrition.
· Relax. Join a yoga class, learn to meditate, start a martial art, start basket weaving (something to take your mind away from everyday ‘stuff’).

One more thing – take care of your spine. Most people think that CHIROPRACTIC is about bad backs and stiff necks. Furthermore, I know that most people go to chiropractors for these reasons and millions of people have incredible results using chiropractors for aches and pains.

BUT, there is more to it! Your ability to stay clear and focus also depends upon a healthy functioning NERVE SYSTEM. Your nerve system coordinates thousands of bodily functions at the same time! Getting a chiropractic adjustment will not only remove stress from your neck and back but will also increase clarity and focus. Regular chiropractic adjustments INCREASE your nerve power by removing nerve pressure caused by spinal misalignments (subluxations).

As you can see, chiropractic can do a lot for you and your family. It can open up another world for your health, and most importantly, it can add to your LIFE. A well adjusted life starts with a well adjusted body.
What kind of body will you have next year?

Contrary to popular belief, our physical body is never older than seven (7) years! This is because the body recreates itself constantly. Cells die and are replaced by new ones. Every second we lose around three and a half million blood cells. No need to worry though, for another three and a half million are born to replace the old one. Ninety - eight percent of the atoms present in our body today will be gone within one year and replaced by new ones.

There is a different life expectancy for every type of tissue cell depending on its function and location in the body. Skin cells live for seven days, heart cells live for ninety days, and bone cells (osteocytes) have a thirty -six month life span. Life energy, the creative force, is constantly at work recreating our tissues and organs. Life energy or "human electricity" travels via the nerve system to reach every single tissue cell in the body.

When nerves are compressed or irritated (vertebral subluxation), there is a loss of life. Abnormal function results and the reproduction cycle of cells is altered. We either have a slower rate of reproduction which can lead to degeneration or a faster rate of reproduction which can lead to abnormal growth. Basically , cell balance is shifted when we have subluxations.

The question we must all ask ourselves is, what kind of body are we going to have next year? Is it going to be a healthier one or a sicker one? Is it going to replace itself efficiently or less efficiently? If already in a state of degeneration or decay, is it going to keep going downhill or is it going to rebuild itself? If a state of dys-function exists, are we going to give our body the potential to heal itself, or are we going to allow it to express more dysfunction?

Chiropractic is special in that it utilizes the adjusting of vertebral (spinal) subluxations or spinal misalignments that interfere with the life force expression. The result is a body that has the potential to reproduce itself normally and function at its maximum potential.

Healing is creation, and the creative spark is Life. Consistent chiropractic adjustments release Life Force by keeping the Life channels open and free of subluxation. In time the body can recover and express better health.

In seven years we will have a brand new body, but what kind is it going to be?

Nerve Power!

I wanted to share with you a little blurb from a gentleman named Jon Gordon. You can check him out at http://www.jongordon.com. His theme is 'energy' and how to improve it, get more of it, etc. He also talks about stress. Very interesting.

My comments are in bold.

JG - " the age of physical strength is over. Darwin's - Survival of the Fittest - is history. Unless you're a soldier or living in the wilderness, rarely does one have to run from a tiger or fight hand to hand combat anymore. Survival today depends much less on our physical ability to conquer someone and relies much more on our ability to transform and manage stress"

Isn't that true. Transform and manage stress? What's that? One way - is to get your spine checked for vertebral subluxations on a weekly basis.

JG - " In our energy-strapped, technology - driven, time -constrained society, the new law of the land is survival of the calmest. I call it 'Conscious Darwinism". Instead of evolving physically to meet the attacks of predators, we must evolve consciously to meet the challenges of a radically changing society. After all, its not the tigers and wild animals but our own fearful, stressful, and negative thoughts that cause us harm. Instead of fighting other tribes, now we must fight the lines at Starbucks and battle traffic during our daily commutes. Everywhere you turn, people are stressed out."

Haven't I said over and over that emotional stress causes spinal misalignments. We are all very busy. We work very hard in this country and enjoy a high standard of living. But at what cost. We are stressed out. Emotional stress takes its toll slowly on the body. It is usually very subtle. Little things can slowly add up over time. The first step is to become aware of your lifestyle. One way to become healthier and manage stressis to make small changes. Add one health raising activity to your life this week, like taking a 10 minute walk or getting your spine checked.

JG - " think of stress like a dam or wall that blocks a flowing river, causing stagnant water and the build up of toxins, bacteria, pesticides and other harmful influences. In our flowing energetic bodies, stress creates and energy blockage that stops the healthy flow of our energetic matter. Since energy creates matter, energy blockages create physical blocks. When our energy is stagnant we are more prone to toxins and illnesses."

Life flows over the nerve system. Bones of your spine protect the spinal cord and nerves. The stresses of daily life can cause the spinal bones to misalign which put pressure on and can alter the function of these nerves and interfere with the flow of life over the nerve system. I check your spine for these misalignments and provide a gentle force called an adjustment. The adjustment helps correct these misalignments, allowing life to flow over the nerve system.

JG - "another way to think of stress is to realize that our bodies require communication at the energetic level between cells via electromagnetic signals and frequencies to maintain harmony, balance and health. Each cell needs to know what the others are doing in order for us to not fall apart ( our inner intelligence is simply fascinating). Unfortunately, stress effects this inner intelligence and harmony. Stress is like a radio signal jammer that effects our cells' ability to communicate with other cells. This leads to more disharmony inside the body and more dis-ease."

Wow, this is chiropractic philosophy from a non-chiropractor! In chiropractic, we talk about the innate intelligence of the body. This intelligence is simply a principle of organization thatuses the nerve system to run and control the body. A spinal misalignment or vertebral subluxation interferes with the function of the innate intelligence. This leads to disharmony or dis -ease which can affect our cells ability to communicate with each other. Get your spine checked and adjusted and increase your 'nerve power'

Great stuff. Scott P. Timpanelli, D.C.

The Five (5) Factors of Health: I would like to present to you five very important factors of a health life from a chiropractic perspective. They are not in any particular order. We can probably come up with more categories. Many, however, would be sub-categories which would fall under the main five.

*Number One: Nutrition. You are what you eat, or so you've heard. But there is truth to this infamous expression. Everything you decide to eat is converted to living tissue, or it is discarded. So yes, what you eat is extremely important. The body needs proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals. There is a lot of good material out there and counselors. Take advantage and just start with the basics.

*Number Two: Exercise. Our bodies are composed of living things. Movement and motion are key principles to life. Our bodies are designed to work and to work hard. It has the inherent or innate capacity to adapt and to heal. We need to exercise. Exercise keeps the juices moving. It enhances our circulation, immune system, aids digestion, improves sleep, and so on. Make it simple - a 10 minute walk done on a consistent basis will do wonders. Exercising can be anything from weightlifting to tai chi.

*Number three: Rest. Sleep and relaxation. We all need it. Our bodies need to recuperate. Tissues and cells need to be maintained and repaired. It's during sleep that our bodies get the chance they need to repair and revitalize.

*Number Four: A Positive Mental Attitude. This is more important than most people know. Believe me, I know it's a challenge to stay positive, especially since life is busy and stressful at times. Our thoughts are much more powerful than you can imagine. There are books written and studies being done that show how thought affects body chemistry. That means that our cells are affected in a positive way by powerful positive loving thoughts. WOW! Powerful stuff. Some of you may have a problem with this concept. Here's a daily example. Have you ever been embarrassed? What happens? Our face may tend to turn red and we blush. An obvious example of cell biology changing with thoughts.

*Number Five: Chiropractic. You knew I had to add chiropractic to the list. It's NOT about your back; it's about your LIFE! Chiropractic will keep your nervous system free from interference. A good nerve supply will not only keep the body working better, but it will also increase the benefits that you receive from all of the other health raising activities listed above!

Emotional, Chemical, Physical . . . . .

These are the three types of stress that cause vertebral subluxations. They are written in order of the most frequent to the least frequent amounts/types of stress that we are exposed to. While the amounts of each may vary from person to person, there are probably hundreds in each category that we are exposed to daily.

Most people can understand how physical trauma can cause spinal problems, but often overlook the other two. How many times have you had a health challenge and when you really thought about, you think "But, I didn't do anything physical to cause it!"? This is because physical stresses are the least common causes of subluxations.

If we were to take a moment to think now about all of the chemicals we place into our bodies from the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the foods we eat, it would frighten us. Now add to that the emotional stress of daily life - our jobs, finances, family and friends. Emotional stresses are the most common cause of subluxations!

The human body is truly amazing! The fact that we can experience these stresses and live long productive lives is wonderful. But since you are alive and have a spine there is no way that you cannot be exposed to these daily stresses. This is why it is absolutely necessary to get your spine checked for vertebral subluxations on a regular basis. While we cannot get rid of stress, we can reduce the impact it can have on you.

Getting your spine checked and adjusted regularly will BUILD power in your nervous system. And a more powerful nervous system increases the power of your BODY and LIFE!

Tying a Piece of String Around Your Aorta

If you tie a piece of string around your aorta (the largest artery in the body coming directly from the heart), would that cause any noticeable problems or symptoms? Perhaps. Perhaps not. However, would your body be better off without the string tied around your aorta? Absolutely! What would be the best time to take the string off? Should you wait for problems or symptoms? A full blown disease process? Death? Or how about right when its placed there because it is a detriment to the function of the aorta.

Subluxations ( misaligned spinal bones causing spinal cord and nerve interference) need to be corrected as soon as possible - regardless of whether you have a symptoms or medical problems.

Altering Structure Always Affects Function:

When you put a suitcase on top of your car, you have altered (temporarily at least) the structure of your car, affecting its weight, its wind resistance, its gas mileage, its brake distance, its tire wear, etc.

A vertebral subluxation is a change in structure of the spine that affects the function of the nerve system. It causes altered spinal biomechanics, abnormal body function,it drains energy, and can cause many other problems. The only thing left is to determine how long you are willing to tolerate this altered function for yourself, your friends, and love ones.
- - - - - - - - - - -

Think of it this way . .would you use a tennis racket to play golf? Of course not. Structure affects function. . . always. Alter the structure of the spine and you alter the functions of the body. Chiropractic works on structure to restore function
