Consistency

If you want the best results in life. . . be consistent! We always get the consequences of our actions. Health happens by choice, not chance.

The human body requires necessary maintenance for health. If these needs are not met, one has to expect problems. These needs include sleep, food, exercise, chiropractic, positive mental attitude, spirituality, etc. It has become trendy and cool to neglect your body and even do things that are harmful. Most people neglect their bodies most of their lives and then complain and feel angry when their bodies begin to fall apart at the young age of 40, 50 ,or 60, when that simply was the consequence of their actions.

Generally, we are responsible for the results in our lives. I say . . .break the cycle. Understand, anything that makes the body stronger is an important investment in life. You may have 5 houses, 3 cars, but you will only have one body and it doesn't come with replaceable parts. Keep things simple. Find fun ways to cook healthy foods. Get rest each night and in the day if possible. Find a fun exercise program that you can do consistently 2-4 times a week.

Be as consistent as possible and you will experience positive changes in your life!

This was sent out to my practice members 4th of July weekend.

Happy Choices Day. . . independence Day!
Happy Independence Day!

Hey Dr. Scott. . what's up with the Happy Choices day?

Well, with independence comes freedom. . the right to pursue life, liberty and whatever make you happy! With freedom comes choices . . .the freedom to choose what you want in your life, etc, etc.

But, be careful, because there are so many choices and for some people that can be a challenge.

Choices like;
- what to eat for dinner
- what to wear
- what to drink
- what to watch on TV
- what channel to watch
- where to live
- what to be when I grow up.
- should I exercise today or tomorrow
- should I get adjusted
- etc, etc, etc,

Amazing, isn't it! And I can go on and on.

So how do we manage all of these choices in a FREE society? Concepts like - what do you value most, prioritizing your goals, focusing on your goals and taking action.

These are just a few and I know we can come up with more principles.

So, take the time this weekend to let go and wup it up, haha. Then get back to what you value most and focus so that the daily choices we make serve you and your family.

Let this weekend remind us that we have the freedom to wup it up when we want to and then we have the freedom to choose a healthy lifestyle!

As we enter the second half of the year, re-choose a healthy lifestyle just like we do at the beginning of the year with our resolutions. Keep it simple to start - eat better, exercise a little more, keep positive, rest, and get your spine checked for nerve interference(subluxations).

Realize that every choice we make either move us toward health or away from health. Please choose wisely!
Can You Fix Me . . .Doc?

Is there really a fix when it comes to your body? When we feel better from a cold or an injury. . are we fixed? If we take a drug for an ailment and feel better . . did the drug fix you? If you feel better after an adjustment, are you fixed? My answer is "It all depends on your personal definition of fixing". If 'fix' to you is feeling better, than yes, you can be fixed.

In my opinion, there is no such thing as fixing the body. Sorry. We have to move away from this dangerous idea that you can go to a doctor and take a pill, or get one adjustment, etc., and expect a fix. Of course, you can feel better, but the body is a dynamic organism. The human body does not stop and everyday we are subjected to physical, chemical and emotional stresses of life.

Please do not misunderstand this point. One of the definitions of 'fixed' is to repair or restore by replacing a part or putting together what is torn or broken. The body can be repaired but the body is always in a continuous state of change! A machine can be fixed. You replace the part, and whammo, it is working again perfectly. It's entirely different with our body. There are too many variables (parts). Our bodies require much more daily attention and maintenance compared to machines even when we feel GREAT!

Also, how you feel on a day to day basis is not a strong indicator of how healthy you are. Our bodies are simply adapting to everything we do every second of our life.. You can feel miserable one day and great the next. Of course you need to pay attention to your body but don't mistake feeling good for fixed and not feeling good to - broken.

There is another aspect to this - "If it's not broke, don't fix it". This philosophy is dangerous when it comes to our bodies. This is saying "there is nothing wrong with me, I feel fine" Most vertebral subluxations are not felt. Does that mean that you are fine? No, you may feel fine, but you have a misaligned vertebra interfering with the proper function of the nerve system. The inborn wisdom of your body, which controls and coordinates the function of every cell in the body, is not free to do its job. That's why its important to get you spine checked at least weekly because most of the nerves are not felt and you really do not know when you are subluxated.

Perhaps we need a major change in our attitude. Perhaps we need to focus on what causes health, what causes proper body function, what causes increased performance on a mental, physical and emotional level. It's really rather simple: eating right, getting regular exercise, maintaining a nerve system free of interference (regular visits to your chiropractor) and having a positive mental attitude.

Check out this cool website - chiromatrix.com

Hello everyone,

Here is a link to a website that can show you how vertebral subluxations can potentially effect certain organs and body parts.

http://www.chiromatrix.com/Chiropractic_Website_Spine_Simulator/nerve_chart/

Visual learners will love this site!

Just a few things to keep in mind. First, everyone of us is 'wired' differently. So the website gives us a general idea where the nerve goes. No two people are wired the same! Yes, we all have 2 eyes, 2 ears but no two faces are exactly the same.

The second thing is that most nerves leaving the spine serve multiple organs and parts. So we really do not know which part of a nerve and which organ is affected by the subluxations. What we do know is that when misalignments (subluxations) happen, these organs and tissues will not functions the best that they can. This effects the entire body to some degree. This site does give us an idea how complex the nerve system is and how it affects the function of every part of the body.

Here are some important questions to think about: Which of these organs and parts can you (and your family members) afford to have deprived of a good nerve supply and working incorrectly as a result of nerve interference and for how long? What do you think will happen to these organs if you (and your loved ones) walk around subluxated?

If you (and your family) are interested in maximum health and getting the most out of life, you really cannot afford to have any part of your body deprived of a good nerve supply. The only way you can insure that there are no vertebral subluxations interfering with your body's ability to be all you can be is to have your spine checked regularly and adjusted as needed.
This is an article I wrote for a local periodical.

Your Health: Less or More?

When it comes to health, what are you hoping for? Less struggle? Less disease? Less risk? Less symptoms? Or . . More opportunities? More health!!? More energy? More vitality? More flexibility? etc.

I guess it all depends how you look at your life. We can take a reactive ( or less ) approach to life and health. In this scenario you are always putting out fires. You are kind of going with the flow. But who's flow? You are always worried about catching the next disease or how to cure it. It can be a scary way to live because you have no control. It's fear based and it can cause one to just run in place for years. You are basically running away from disease and trying to figure out how to get rid of your new ailment.

There is nothing wrong with addressing how you feel on a day to day basis. But, to be really healthy and bounce back quick to the stresses of daily life takes a subtle shift of your focus.

We can easily shift our focus from 'running away', to 'moving toward'. 'Moving toward' is a proactive (more) approach to life and health. You may think its prevention but its not. Its the mind-set of 'what can I do today to build health' in my body and life. For example; instead of exercising regularly to prevent bad health, you exercise to build health and power! Instead of eating well to prevent cancer, you eat well to build health and power. The basic fact is - disease cannot exist in a healthy body!

This pertains to what I do for a living also. Most people go to the chiropractor because they have an ache or a pain they want to get rid of. In other words, they want less of something. There is nothing wrong with that because we all want to feel better. However, what most people don't know, is that chiropractic adjustments will add more power to your nerve system. Another fact that most people don't know is that 90 percent of your nerves are for function, no pain. For example, your stomach, , your pancreas , liver, kidneys are performing hundreds of functions without your conscious control.

Everything we do affects our spine so some degree. Chiropractic adjustments keep the spine working properly which keeps your nerve system working better. This allows us to have more energy. more vitality and more health.

Chiropractic and Energy

Energy. We can't live well without it. Everyone has a better, productive, happier day when they are more energetic!

Every cell in the body (trillions) is a tiny natural energy generator. At the basic chemical level, the body uses energy to power cellular functions with ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate). ATP is the power molecule generated during cellular respiration. Almost every muscle contraction in the body is powered by ATP. So how do we produce ATP? From glucose, lipids and sometimes amino acids from our everyday food.

Glucose is stored in the liver and muscles and is always available for our body's energy production. Did you know that glucose in the blood is carefully monitored by the nerve system? The body has to maintain an average of 70 - 110mg/dl.of glucose in the blood. When blood glucose rises, the hormone insulin is released. Insulin will increase the rate of glucose transport into the cells. Our Energy depends upon this mechanism to work.

It's the nerve system that monitors and coordinates all of these processes. The release of insulin is carefully controlled and timed by the nerve system. The nerve system is protected by hard bone, which is your spine. And here is the point - Chiropractic deals with the relationship between the bones of the spine and the nerve system. Spinal misalignments (called subluxations) interfere with the function of the nerve system and therefore will affect the body's energy production in some way. How much effect it will have is an individual experience. However, your nerve system simply works better without these subluxations.

This is just one example, out of the many thousands of examples, that illustrate the power of your nerves!

Get your spine checked and adjusted as often as possible. Your nerves will thank you for it!
